What Happens at the First Home Visit
The first visit usually starts with a conversation. The occupational therapist asks about the participant's goals, daily routine, health and the support they already receive from family, carers or services. Family members and support coordinators are welcome to join.
The therapist then looks at how everyday tasks are managed in the home, such as getting in and out of bed, showering, preparing meals and moving between rooms. They also look at existing equipment and the layout of the spaces the participant uses most. Afterwards, the therapist agrees next steps with the participant. This might be a written report, equipment trials, home modification recommendations or a plan for ongoing therapy sessions.
